WHERE IT GOES WRONG
Panel selection follows from the cleaning agents and the fire rating your occupancy requires, not from the price per square metre. Settle both before the panel schedule is issued.
SPECIFYING THE SYSTEM
What decides the panel
A modular system is specified by what it has to survive, not by the price per square metre.
- Core and facing. Rock wool, honeycomb and EPS behave differently on fire rating and on load. The facing decides how the surface holds up to your cleaning agents.
- Joint and corner detail. Flush joints, with coved corners where wall meets wall, wall meets floor and wall meets ceiling. Every uncoved corner is a cleaning problem that eventually shows up in a swab.
- Doors, windows and interlocks. Flush glazing, closers, and door interlocks where the airlock sequence requires them. Interlocks belong to the pressure scheme, so they are specified with it rather than after it.
- Demountability. The point of a modular system is that the room can be reconfigured later. The panel and connection type decide whether that is still true in five years.
