A pressure scheme drawn room by room
Laboratories are the one facility type where the pressure direction changes from door to door, so the scheme is drawn room by room rather than set once for the building. Sample receipt, preparation, instrument rooms and microbiology each get their own direction, and the circulation plan has to keep incoming material away from work already finished. Benching, extract, gas and drainage all land in the same ceiling void as the air handling, so the coordination happens before installation rather than during it.
- Pressure direction depends on whether you are protecting the product, the operator, or both. That decision is made before the layout, not after.
- Microbiology suites typically need a separate scheme from the rooms around them.
- Testing laboratories seeking accreditation are assessed against ISO/IEC 17025, which covers environmental conditions where they affect results.
