How to choose a cleanroom contractor in Malaysia

Check CIDB registration first

Construction works in Malaysia require registration with CIDB under Act 520. Ask for the registration number, the grade and the category. Then check two things: that the grade covers your contract value, and that the category covers mechanical and electrical work rather than building works alone. Get the scope split in writing

1. Which grade and category is your CIDB registration, and does it cover this contract value?
2. What air change rate are you designing to, and what does that assume about my heat load?
3. Who carries out the classification testing, and are they independent of you?
4. What happens if the room fails its first test, and who pays for the rework?
5. How do I reach the filters to change them without shutting down production?

Do not let the builder certify the build

Classification testing should be carried out by a party with no interest in the result. If one company designs the room, installs it, and then signs off that it passes, your auditor will notice before you do. Learn about validation support.

What should make you slow down

• A price per square foot quoted before anyone has seen the site. What actually drives cost.
• No air change rate stated anywhere in the proposal
• Testing and certification bundled in with the build, by the same party
• A scope document that does not say who submits to the fire authority
